Easy reading yet powerful conceptsPosted on Carolyn R.Verified Going Home: A Novel (The Survivalist Series Book 1) | Good book and there are more in the series to come. The book came quickly. It was in pristine condition. Very long but I enjoyed it despite a zillion military technical terms.Posted on Amazon CustomerVerified Going Home: A Novel (The Survivalist Series Book 1) | Good read Bought for a friend, who tells me its a great read & wants number 2,im sure there are 6 in all.Posted on dave sVerified Going Home: A Novel (The Survivalist Series Book 1) | An exciting adventure! A great read, I really enjoyed this bookPosted on DanaVerified Going Home: A Novel (The Survivalist Series Book 1) | It's straight to the point I really enjoyed this book. It tends to have a lot of "I" throughout the first quarter and lacks some detail. But for some this could be a great book if you want to get straight to the point in scenarios. This book helped me get more ideas for my own BOB so quite thankful for that!Posted on timinspokaneVerified Going Home: A Novel (The Survivalist Series Book 1) | Fantastic! Hard to put down. This is the first book in a series about a prepper who is caught a few hundred miles from home after an EMP attack. First, I will make a few technical comments. I have read a lot of reviews on here that talk about the atrocious editing, misspelled words, etc. Some of that is definitely true. However, it seems to me that some of the misspelled words were on purpose, in an attempt to recreate a backwoods southern drawl. Morgan, the main character, slips into the same drawl even though he rarely uses it during the rest of the book. That is certainly inconsistent. Also, the editing improves as you go. Yes, the author does give a lot of brand names of equipment and other items, which I find unobtrusive and helpful. Now, I bought the Kindle version, and like most Kindle products, there are a few grammatical errors and misspellings here and there. However, they really don't affect the excellent, action packed story line. I found the first quarter of the book to be slow moving, which is often the case in novels where the author spends a lot of time trying to develop the characters before diving into the real "meat" of the story. The story really does pick up steam, though, and by the end of the book, I found it very hard to put down. I am now nearly done with book 2 in the series, and either the editing got better, or I am used to it. Regardless, book 2 is a real "page turner". I find myself rooting for the characters, being shocked at some of their actions, and have even laughed and smiled at some of the turns in the story. I am very much looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I gave this book 4 stars because of the editing issues. Book 2 will easily get a 5 star review from me. The books are getting better as they go, which would be expected assuming these are the authors first attempts at writing full length novels on a budget. Be advised that, especially in book 2, there are quite a few "F" bombs dropped, but they don't seem gratuitous. They fit the characters and the narrative. All in all, this book and the rest of the series have been great reads. If you are a fan of "prepper fiction" or other dystopian themed books, you will love it.Posted on S.Verified Going Home: A Novel (The Survivalist Series Book 1) | Einfach gut! Was soll ich schreiben. Posted on Stéph. Posted on ZyPhReXVerified Going Home: A Novel (The Survivalist Series Book 1) | Engaging, Thought Provoking & Realistic! Going Home is my newest favorite survival/prepper novel. We have read a few other books in the genre, and definitely enjoy this very much. The difference with this book is though that, although its a REALLY great book, it is definitely not a stand alone. I have definitely seen a lot of people complain about that in other reviews of the other books. What I mean by that is that the book is analogous to being the first few chapters of a larger book, and it just suddenly ends. To me personally it doesn't matter as we planned on reading [if it was good] the next books anyways, so it gave us something to look forward too. Indeed, the book is not only great, but it is very descriptive as anybody that enjoys survival gear will enjoy the author's specificity in many apart, as it adds to the realism and appreciation of said items. Did the author need to do that? No. Does it change the story? Not really. Does it give the book depth? I think so. It gives it an air of realism that many will understand. Besides that, the relationships forged in this adventure seem real enough if not better. Its hard to tell what people would do in such scenarios, but the protagonists went through hell and back in order to do what they needed to do [try to get home], and the reason for that is that people got desperate [which they would in real life], and that also not only added to the realism but opens people's eyes to the realities of such scenarios. Honestly, we hope this series goes a full ten books or more because it will be worth it. Hopefully the other books stay just as long, full of life, entertaining and yet realistically engaging while captivating us into this WROL world. We have already recommended it and both folks that read it loved it and are absolutely hooked. Hopefully if you've read this book you've enjoyed it just as much, and if you haven't you choose to take the dive, as it is definitely worth it.Posted on KentVerified Going Home: A Novel (The Survivalist Series Book 1) | Love this genre! Love this story! I ate this book! I absolutely loved it. I liked the way it was written, as if the author was talking to you not at you. He's not trying to write pretentious prose like Cormac McCarthy hes just telling you a story. I love the whole Apocalyptic genre and what would happen to normal people in the event of a breakdown in society. The author gives a realistic account of how people would react should they lose all the conveniences that we all take for granted and use without thought every day. How many would be helpless sheep, how others would be predators and a good many would be self sufficient. There is plenty of action and there is also a whole heaping helping of good advice to be taken from the book about preparation for a cataclysmic event. You can use the book to make up a shopping list of essential items for long term survival or just a comfortable camping trip. The setting the author uses is ground that I myself have traveled. The characters are believable and likeable. The scenarios he puts his characters into you may think are far fetched but all you have to do is look back to hurricane Katrina and think of that situation magnified and you can believe them. There is a political message that leans to the conservative side and if you are left leaning the book is not for you. The book is entertaining and educational. If you are into the post apocalyptic genre or the survival genre you'll love it
